FRANKIE RANDALL
Frankie Randall is a three time world champion who is credited for handing Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez his first loss.
Randall, who was born in Alabama and raised in Tennessee, turned pro in 1981 after a lenghty amateur career. From 1983 through 1985, Frankie stayed busy winning 23 fights before losing to Edwin Rosario, costing him a title shot. His next heartbreak came in 1886 when he drew against Freddie Pendleton for the USBA regional lightweight title. Pendleton was awarded the title shot, even though he had been previously beaten by Randall. He then signed a contract with promoter Don King and won 17 consectutive fights over six years, and earned a title shot when he avenged his loss over Rosario with a 7th round knockout.
That shot came in 1994 VS. Chavez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Chavez came into the fight with a 90-0-1 record, and was an 18-1 favorite to beat the 32 year old Randall. Frankie started strong, building a huge lead on the cards before a late Chavez rally. Then in round 10, Frankie Randall knocked Chavez down for the first time in his spectacular career. Minutes later, He shocked the world by winning a split decision and taking the WBC title.
He went on to win The WBA title by Beating Juan Coggi in that same year, but lost the title two years later in a rematch after two successful title defenses. he won the title back in 1997.
Frankie took some time off, and then made a fourth attempt to win a world title in 1999, but lost a decision to Oba Carr.
